I have been getting to know a wonderful new friend in the past few days! We quickly discovered that we share a love of poetry, among many other things. And, she is a very talented poet herself! Last night I sent her some pictures of our Maine scenery and she amazed me by writing this lovely poem! Reading it, I can hardly believe that she has never been to Maine! She has kindly given me permission to share it on my blog. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 😊
On the green hills where atop the cottages perch,
under the leafy boughs of oak and ash and birch,
Where rivers of crystal water and trees abide forever free,
I long to go.
In the midst of deep, fragrant grass, in which I'd love to lie,
By purple blackberry bushes and on the lakeside,
Oh the frost, and ice and snow!
The sun, and rain, and grass below!
How I dream of thee.
Where the sky and pine trees meet,
Where the springs flow fresh and sweet,
I hear adventure calling.
Oh, Maine, your sweetness fills my being,
Where the morning sunshine send the shadows fleeing,
Very nice poem, well-matched with your lovely photos - thanks for sharing it, Joanna. Now where is your poem? :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Eliza, I'll pass that on to her! :) Much as I love poets and poetry...
Delete"Yet, vainly in my quiet hours
To breathe their marvellous notes I try;
I feel them, as the leaves and flowers
In silence feel the dewy showers,
And drink with glad still lips the blessing of the sky."
