Better Things

 Better to smell the violet

Than sip the glowing wine;

Better to hearken to a brook

Than watch a diamond shine.

Better to have a loving friend

Than ten admiring foes;

Better a daisy's earthy root

Than a gorgeous, dying rose.

Better to love in loneliness

Than bask in love all day;

Better the fountain in the heart

Than the fountain by the way.

Better be fed by mother's hand

Than eat alone at will;

Better to trust in God, than say,

My goods my storehouse fill.

Better to have a quiet grief

Than many turbulent joys;

Better to miss thy manhood's aim

Than sacrifice the boy's.

Better a death when work is done

Than earth's most favoured birth;

Better a child in God's great house

Than the king of all the earth.

    1. Oh I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, Veleria. I've been thinking of you a lot lately. Hope you are well. πŸ€— Did the MGs produce any seed?

    2. I just saw your post. Don't know how I missed it.

      Yes the MG's produced a good bit of seed. Would you like some?

      Did the Zinnias do any good for you? It may be too cold up there. They are a hot, humid weather plant. I didn't think about that.

      You have such a talent in matching up your pics with all the poems. I certainly enjoy them. Been in the 80s here. I think our winter, if you want to call it that, is pretty much over.

      I've been weeding, trimming and planting a few things.

      Let me know if you need seeds. Veleria

    1. Thanks, Eliza! πŸ€— Seeing the vole was a real treat! It just sat there and watched me for a minute, then slipped into a little hole in the moss...what a home! 😊
