In a Vase on Monday: I Don't Care for Pouting Skies!

It seems that Spring is rather reluctant to come to northern Maine. We've had a long winter, with deep snow on the ground since early November (and a few dustings before that!). We still have a couple of feet on the ground in most places, and it's snowing again today! I've been inclined to be a little depressed about it, but...I've decided to take a lesson from one of my favorite flowers today instead and join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for IAVOM. 😊  Needless to say, these lovelies were not found outside! I have a few pots of Heartsease (Viola tricolor) on the kitchen windowsill to get me through the winter. The only problem is that my kitties think they are delicious! 😁  But, they did leave me a few to share with you today...

I'm the little "Heart's Ease"!
I don't care for pouting skies!
If the Butterfly delay
Can I, therefore, stay away?

If the Coward Bumble Bee
In his chimney corner stay,
I, must resoluter be!
Who'll apologize for me?

Dear, Old fashioned, little flower!
Eden is old fashioned, too!
Birds are antiquated fellows!
Heaven does not change her blue.
Nor will I, the little Heart's Ease –
Ever be induced to do!

  2. Sweet flowers and poem, thank you! My sympathies about the snow and I see that a major snowstorm is heading your way the end of the week. Argh! When spring finally arrives, I expect it will be sweet indeed. x

    1. Glad you liked them. :) We are only getting about 4 inches tonight...for a while they were forecasting 8 inches so this is better! It actually looks like it's going to be warming up later this week and we might get some rain. Hmm, hopefully there isn't something coming that I don't know about yet!

  3. I am pleased to see that you are still able to find joy in some blooms whilst you still have all that snow, albeit on your windowsill

    1. Those flowers that will bloom on a windowsill and in the short days of winter are very much appreciated...I don't know how I would survive without them!

  5. More snow?!!! And here, on the other end of the country, our temperature is intent on climbing well over 80F today. I'm glad you found some pretty violas the naughty cats didn't eat.

    1. Wow, we melt when it gets over 75 here! :D I just about have to hide my flowers from the mischievous kitties! I had 3 pots of Heartsease in bloom but am now down to one...but I still love them. :)

    1. Thank you Alison...we are hoping this was the last snow of the season, although it is a possibility even well into May. But the forecast is looking pretty encouraging just now! :)

  9. Always loved Pansies, and the poem expresses one of its virtues very well.
